The advanced driving experience at the Northamptonshire Skid Control Centre
Drivers sometimes visit the Northamptonshire Skid Control Centre 'AFTER' they have had an accident. Drivers sometimes come to Northamptonshire Skid Control Centre thinking that they are already excellent drivers. However everyone who comes to the skid pan comes and learns essential advanced driving skills which improves their road safety, and has fun in the process
The ultimate driving experience - might just save your life!
The circuit is a wet surface skid pan (partly covered in oil and water). The driving area is coned off into a figure of eight, with tyre walls for safety. There are a number of front and rear wheeled cars available for different driving experiences.
"We train teams from the police, corporate fleets and anyone who understands the need to know how to control their vehicle in an emergency" Stan Heggs - Head instructor As a student you will sit with your driving instructor and a number of other students. You will be taught how to stop the car safely and how to drive to safety when the road surface is slippery.
Expert tuition is on hand to firstly show you the rules, then to support you as you try to control the car yourself. Following tuition from one of our instructors through a series of different maneuvers you are set free to try the techniques over and over yourself until you are confident you know how to control the vehicle.
The Skid Control Centre is located on the edge of the old World War 1 Desborough Airfield. The circuit is a permanent facility. We offer a refreshment cabin for our guests when they are not on the circuit.
