Advanced Skid Control training on our WET surface Skid Pan in Northamptonshire
Skid Pan driver training is a fun and safe way of learning advanced driving skills. We help you learn how to control your car when driving on icy or hazardous road surfaces.
A safe place to learn for any driver
We operate a custom built half acre driving facility on Desborough Airfield in Northamptonshire. The surface reacts like ice when wet creating road conditions which are as unpredictable as the real thing. We find this more realistic than using additional 'jockey wheels' which are attached to the side of cars on dry skid pans.
The site is located away from public roads and dangerous obstacles. Our Skid Pan has a figure of eight road layout with junctions and road signs surrounded with a safe rubber tyre border.
Expert 121 driving tuition
Our skid pan training is conducted by Stan Heggs and Paul Hollingsworth who are both experienced advanced drivers and ROSPA Gold Accredited drivers. Stan is a professional driving instructor with 'Precision Driving and Road craft'.
A fun day driving and an education too!
An afternoons driving is a great opportunity for companies or individuals to improve the safety of their driving in a safe friendly environment.
Corporate fleet managers often send new company car drivers to our skid pan as part of their programme to help reduce the cost of their company insurance claims. And in addition we often host groups of friends and colleagues visiting us simply for fun, or as part of their own driving education.
Each driver gets personal tuition from Stan or Paul in both front and rear wheel drive cars.
Sessions last up three hours for a group of six people which includes group and individual tuition. Groups of three students get time in both front and rear wheel driven cars. Students learn skills by taking it in turn to drive, watch and discuss techniques with their instructors.
At the end of the lesson you get time to practice what you have learned without an instructor. Successful drivers receive a certificate of approval.
